‘We must be doing what we want the world to be.’
I love that quote from Mohandas Gandhi. The words are not only great words of truth, but the quote is ultimately a challenge for every one of us to lean in and do the things we believe in — to do things that are bigger than us and not out of selfish ambition and motivation. Quite the opposite. If we want the world around us to be better, it often requires us to make sacrifices for the good of others around us — to leave good footprints so there’s better tomorrows for others.
That’s exactly how I feel about our mission to try and transform the industry to make healthcare more affordable, higher quality, and less complicated for our country. It’s why I believe SimplePay Health is more important than ever. It’s so big, and the responsibility to not waste this opportunity for SimplePay Health sometimes scares me.
Over the last three years, there are several life lessons I’ve learned that I will never forget:
- We are not in this alone. As we have traveled the country (through Zoom!) to introduce a better model for health insurance, I’ve never felt more encouraged by the hundreds (maybe thousands) around us who are as passionate about changing our industry for good as we are. For all of you who have been willing to be the tip of the spear, a sincere thank you. You are warriors and leaders.
- The first one through the wall often gets bloody. There are those around us who would resist change for good. Those who prefer the status quo. Those who would prefer the path for how we have always done it. The mission has been fantastically harder than we ever expected, and we have overcome more challenges than we anticipated along this journey. It’s incredible to look back at all the things we’ve overcome and to look forward at the bright future ahead of us.
- There are people counting on us to make the world a better place. That’s a big statement and a big responsibility. This is so much bigger than just health insurance and healthcare. We truly have an opportunity to impact the lives and financial livelihood of millions of Americans.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we should not settle for kicking the can down the road any longer. We sit at a crucial time in our country and need to take action with real answers. We know what needs to be done, and it’s time to go. It’s time to tackle the real issues of healthcare. It’s wrong that healthcare isn’t affordable. It’s wrong that people aren’t accessing it because they’re worried they’ll have to choose between their health and their mortgage. It’s wrong that it’s just too complicated for people to understand. It’s time to share over and over again how SimplePay Health can transform the insurance industry and truly help simplify the overcomplicated healthcare system that’s been created.
We will never give up on our dreams, and we will continue to do what we want the world to be.
